Frequently Asked Questions

Preferred Checking is changing to Everyday Checking

What is happening and when?

On July 22, 2024, your Preferred Checking account will be changing to Everyday Checking.

  • The Everyday Checking account offers similar benefits to your current account and there will be no changes to your account number, online/mobile banking access, existing checks, debit card, direct deposit, or bill payments.
  • The monthly service fee for your Everyday Checking account will decrease to $10 and you’ll have some new ways to avoid it, such as a decreased minimum daily balance requirement from $7,500 to $500. This means as long as your balance doesn’t go below $500 any day in the monthly fee period,1 you will not pay the $10 fee.

Why are you changing my account?

  • We’ve updated our checking accounts to better meet the needs of our customers; therefore, we no longer offer Preferred Checking accounts.
  • Your updated account will give you continued access to the benefits which are important to you.

Will my account number or routing number change?

Your account number and routing number will remain the same. You can find your account and routing numbers in Online Banking under “Routing and Details.” Or use the guide here: Routing & Account Number Information for Your Wells Fargo Accounts.

I currently have direct deposit and scheduled bill payments with my checking account. Will I need to set these up again?

All of your current direct deposits and bill payments will continue uninterrupted in your Everyday Checking account.

What is the Everyday Checking account monthly service fee?

The Everyday Checking monthly service fee is $10. You can avoid the $10 monthly service fee if you meet any one of the following conditions during each fee period:

  • $500 minimum daily balance
  • $500 or more in total qualifying electronic deposits2
  • The primary account owner is 17 – 24 years old3
  • A linked Wells Fargo Campus ATM Card or Campus Debit Card4
  • A qualifying non-civilian military direct deposit with the Wells Fargo Worldwide Military Banking program5,7

We’ll waive the monthly service fee for the first two fee periods after July 22, 2024, so that you have extra time to make any adjustments, if needed, to avoid the fee.

What remains the same?

  • You can continue to use your Wells Fargo Debit Card to make purchases and payments, and to get cash and manage your money at ATMs.
  • You can still use the Wells Fargo Mobile® app6 with your account.
  • You can continue to use your existing checks.
  • Worldwide Military Banking ATM benefits will continue to apply if you maintain a qualifying military direct deposit.7
  • Your account and routing numbers will not change, and your direct deposits and automatic bill payments continue uninterrupted in your Everyday Checking account.

Are there other benefits with Everyday Checking?

  • With your new Everyday Checking account, you may be eligible to receive the following benefits8 each fee period when you link your account to a Wells Fargo Campus ATM Card or Campus Debit Card:
    • No monthly service fee charged
    • No Wells Fargo fees for up to four cash withdrawals from non-Wells Fargo ATMs in the U.S.9
    • Courtesy refund of one incoming wire transfer fee10
    • No fee charged for one overdraft11

What is a fee period?

  • You can find your account fee period on your statement in the Monthly Service Fee Summary section, online in your account’s Activity Summary, or in the mobile app in the Account Summary page under the Routing & Details section.
  • We use a fee period to determine your monthly service fee and other monthly fees. We calculate and post your monthly service fee, if any, on the last business day of your fee period (excluding Prime Checking and Premier Checking accounts).
